Coventry, Rhode Island – May 30, 1969

     On May 30, 1969, two men from Long Island, New York, were flying in a two-seat Cessna aircraft bound for T.F. Green Airport in Warwick.  Both were members of the Republic Aviation softball team in route to a game. It was noted that the plane was running low on fuel so they landed at the Coventry Air Park in western Coventry to refuel.  The air park didn’t have the right aviation fuel, so the men took off hoping to reach T. F. Green.  As they plane was leaving the ground it crashed into some trees at the edge of the flying field and was wrecked.  The pilot and his passenger suffered only minor injuries.
