Nantucket, Massachusetts – April 6, 1985

On April 6, 1985, a twin-engine Piper Navajo with eight people aboard took off from Hyannis, Massachusetts, bound for Namtucket.  As the aircraft approached Nantucket it began to encounter fog conditions.  Fog at the Nantucket Airport had reduced visibility to barely a mile.

The pilot was granted permission to land and he began making his final approach.  At 6:15 P.M. the plane crashed and burst into flames about a half-mile short of the runway.

All eight persons were injured, but all survived.  Three were admitted to Nantucket Cottage Hospital for burns and abrasions.  The rest were treated and released.

The aircraft was owned by Will’s Air, which is no longer in business.
