Worcester, Massachusetts – September 20, 1957
On September 20, 1957, a small airplane with two men aboard was approaching to land at the Worcester Airport when it crashed in a heavily wooded area 1,200 feet from the end of the runway. Both men survived the crash and reportedly lay near the wreckage for almost 15 hours before making their way out of the woods. They somehow obtained transportation away from the area and didn’t report the crash.
When the wreckage was discovered about 40 hours later, an investigation was begun. The suspected pilot was a man from East Hartford, Connecticut. He held a student pilot’s license and was not authorized to carry passengers. He refused to discuss the crash other than to say the plane suddenly plummeted as he approached the airport.
The suspected passenger was a man from Cromwell, Connecticut. He was located in a hospital 80 miles from the crash scene recovering from serious injuries. Investigators were told that he’d fallen off a roof while fixing a television antenna.
