Woolford’s Airfield – Franklin, Massachusetts

Woolford’s Airfield – Franklin, Massachusetts

According to a Woonsocket Call and Evening Reporter newspaper article dated September 6, 1929, Woolford’s Airport was under construction in the town of Franklin, Massachusetts.  As a point of fact, another airport was also under construction at the time.  For more information about the other airport, click here.

The article went on to state that the Woolford Airfield had been leased until the end of the year by a wealthy contractor from Waltham, Massachusetts, who had recently purchased a new American Eagle silver airplane.

Work was still progressing, but when finished, the field would include four-way runways, each of which would be 75 feet over regulation length for safety.  It was also planned that a steel hangar would be constructed near the Woodford barn.

The opening date was set for late September due to weather and construction delays.  Once open, commercial flights would take place on the weekends.

Opening day was to include stunt flying performed by “Daredevil Gus Oliver”.
