Weare, N.H. – June 13, 1965

Weare, New Hampshire – June 13, 1965

On June 13, 1965, two men and a 13-year-old youth took off from Keene, New Hamshire, in a Piper Cruiser, bound for York Beach, Maine.  (The youth was the son of the pilot.) During the flight they encountered severe weather and crashed in a wooded area near Perkins Pond in Weare.  The passenger was pinned in the wreckage.  The pilot suffered broken ribs, but the 13-year-old escaped injury.  While the youth remained with the injured man, the pilot hiked out of the woods to get help.   When rescue crews arrived the passenger was freed from the wreckage and transported to a hospital where he recovered.
