Charlestown Naval Auxiliary Air Field – Rhode Island
On April 22, 1944, Ensign James Laverne Adams, (21), was a passenger in an automobile that was approaching the sentry gate of the Charlestown Naval Auxiliary Air Field in Charlestown, Rhode Island. Evidently the driver did not come to s full stop for the sentry, and instead went rolling past the gate, at which time the sentry fire a bullet into the car which struck and killed Ensign Adams. No further details are known.
Ensign Adams was a navy pilot assigned to VF(n)-79.
