South Attleboro, Massachusetts – May 26, 1963

      At 3:10 p.m. on May 26, 1963 a lone pilot took off in a single engine monoplane from the Woonsocket (R.I.) Airport.  Shortly after 5 p.m., while flying over the Attleboro area, the engine began to sputter and the pilot feared it was a problem witht he fuel lines so he attempted an emergency landing.  He chose to set down on a bridge overpass on Rt.1 in South Attleboro.  The overpass spanned Rt. 95. 

     The plane wrecked and the pilot received cuts and bruises and traffic was shut down for several hours.
