North Berwick, Maine – January 17, 1971
On the afternoon of January 17, 1971, two men took off from Lawrence, Massachusetts, in what was described only as a “light plane”, bound for Portland, Maine. While nearing the town of North Berwick, Maine, the engine failed due to carburetor icing. While attempting an emergency landing in a wooded area off Route 9 in North Berwick, the aircraft struck some power lines and crashed. The aircraft was a total loss, but neither of the two men aboard were injured.
