Newport, New Hampshire – July 15, 1963
On July 15, 1963, a lone 45-year-old man was piloting a small aircraft over the Newport area. He owned a summer cottage on Lake Sunapee and had some friends staying with him. Shortly before 6 p.m. he “buzzed” the cottage, which was a pre-arranged signal for his friends to pick him up at the Newport Airport about five miles away. When his friends arrived at the airport they learned that their friend had perished when his plane crashed in a field about a mile from the airport.
