Mt. Greylock, Massachusetts – January 23, 1953
On January 23, 1953, a lone pilot from Bristol, Connecticut, was piloting a small plane when he crashed into Mount Greylock after encountering heavy fog. He survived the crash but had broken his back in two places and was suffering from other injuries. After extricating himself from the wreckage, and crawled four-and-a-half miles on his hands and knees to a farm house only to find it abandoned. He then heard the sound of someone using a chain saw and followed it until he came to a house in Cheshire where the owner was cutting wood. The man was transported to Pittsfield General Hospital for treatment.
