Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts – November 25, 1980
On the morning of November 25, 1980, a lone pilot with 30 years of flight experience took off from Plymouth Airport in Plymouth, Mass., in a single-engine Globe GC-1B airplane, (N80674), bound for Martha’s Vineyard, and disappeared in route. It was reported that he never arrived at Martha’s Vineyard, and a search was instituted with negative results. The mystery was solved a few days later when the wreckage of the missing plane was found about 3/4 of a mile off the take-off end of Martha’s Vineyard Airport. The body of the missing pilot was found inside the aircraft.
