Westover Field – January 26, 1945

     On January 26, 1945, Flight Officer James E. Sonnenmeir exited a B-24 Liberator parked on the tarmac at Westover Field in Chicopee, Massachusetts, while the engines were running.   As he was walking under one of the wings, he slipped on ice and slid into a spinning propeller causing fatal injuries.
