Quonset Point Naval Air Station – June 13, 1955
On the morning of June 13, 1955, a navy F9F-6 Panther fighter jet, (Bu. No. 130803), was taking off from the Quonset Point Naval Air station when the plane suddenly lost power and crashed into Narragansett Bay at the end of the runway. The plane sank, but the pilot escaped, and was rescued by a Quonset crash boat.
The pilot was attached to VF-703.
