Atlantic Ocean – December 7, 1954

 

U.S.A.F. F-86 Fighter Jet

     On December 7, 1954, 1st Lt. Edward Dillon of Naugatuck, Connecticut, took off from Otis Air Force Base in Falmouth, Massachusetts, in an F-86D Sabre, (Ser. No. 52-4248).  He was taking part in what was reportedly an “interception mission” off outer Cape Cod, and disappeared.  His last known location was in the area of Monomoy Island off the town of Chatham.   It was believed his aircraft went down in the ocean. 

     He was assigned to the 60th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, 33rd Fighter Group.
