Elephant Mountain, ME. – September 14, 2003

Elephant Mountain, Maine – September 14, 2003

On September 14, 2003, the pilot of a four-seat Cessna 206, (Reg. No. N755FA), was preparing to take off from Horseshoe Pond with three passengers aboard for what was expected to be a short transportation flight to a hunting camp.   According to witnesses,  the pilot made several attempts to become airborne before finally lifting off the water.  As the plane rose into the air the engine suddenly stopped, and the plane dove into a wooded section at the base of Elephant Mountain and burst into flames.  The pilot was the only one to survive.
