Worcester, Vermont – November 23, 1957
At 1:45 a.m. on the morning of November 23, 1957, two men from Hawthorne, New York, took off from Newport, Vermont, in a single-engine Bellanca, (reg. No. N74442), bound for Dutches county Airport in Poughkeepsie, New York. While flying at an altitude of 6,500 feet, the pilot reported ice building up on the wings, and was directed to Burlington Airport. While attempting to make Burlington, the plane suddenly fell from the sky and crashed in a wooded swamp on a mink farm killing both men instantly.
