Quonset Point Naval Air Station – May 1, 1962

    On May 1, 1962, a U.S. Navy, AD5W Skyraider, crashed on take-off from the Quonset Point Naval Air Station.  The plane went down in the waters of Narragansett Bay about 500 yards northeast of Pier 2.   Another source puts the location about 900 yards off Pettee Avenue in North Kingston. 

     Both crewmen aboard were killed.  They were identified as:

     (Pilot) Lieutenant Harold E. Richlie, 27, of Missoula, Montana.  he was survived by his wife Janet. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/134443057/harold-emmett-richlie

     Parachute Rigger 2C Kenneth M. Robinson, 33, of Randolph, Massachusetts.  He was survived by his wife Ann. 

     The aircraft was assigned to Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 33.
