Ashland, Maine – October 30, 1947
On October 30, 1947, a 25-year-old pilot was flying a pontoon-equipped Cub airplane over the town of Ashland. Witnesses later said he’d been doing so for about two hours before the aircraft came in low and struck a tree top causing it to crash and burn in a vacant lot behind the village business district, killing the pilot.
