Weymouth, Massachusetts – October 13, 1969

On October 13, 1969, a 28-year-old wife and mother of two children took off in a Cherokee 140 airplane from the Weymouth Naval Air Station for a cross country flight to Hyannis, New Bedford, and back to Weymouth.  For some undetermined reason, as she was approaching to land at the Weymouth Naval Air Station, the aircraft came in low and almost struck an house and gas station on Route 18.  It then crashed and burned about 120 feet beyond.  The plane crashed about one mile from the air station where the woman’s husband was waiting.

There were no injuries to people on the ground.

The aircraft belonged to the civilian aero club at the naval base.  Men from the naval base responded to the crash site along with fire and police from Weymouth.
