Waterford, Connecticut – July 1, 1950
On July 1, 1950, the 25-year-old pilot of a Piper Cub found himself lost in fog while flying over the Waterford area. As he flew below the fog he made an emergency landing in a cornfield on the Harkness Estate. As he did so the plane nosed over and the pilot was thrown from the aircraft and suffered critical injuries.
