Thompson, CT. – July 25, 1948

Thompson, Connecticut – July 25, 1948

On the night of July 25, 1948, a 23-year-old pilot and a female companion were in a small aircraft over the northeastern portion of Connecticut, and they were lost.  Then the pilot spotted the lights of the Thompson Speedway in Thompson and made an emergency landing on the field.  As he was doing so the plane struck a guardrail to the track causing damage, and minor injuries to the pilot.  His companion was not hurt.

The accident occurred shortly before midnight, and it was reported that the midget auto races scheduled for that night had only concluded a few minutes earlier.

The pilot was transported to Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, Connecticut.
