Taunton, Massachusetts – August 29, 1951
On August 29, 1951, two men rented a small airplane at the Taunton Airport and took off for a routine flight. At the end of their flight, the plane was returning to the airport. According to a flight instructor on the ground who witnessed what happened next, the airplane was approaching the field too slowly, and suddenly dove to the ground from an altitude of fifty feet, crashing in a parking lot adjacent to the airfield. Both men were seriously injured and had to be cut out of the wreckage with torches.
The plane was owned by King Aviation Service of Taunton.
