Swansea, Massachusetts – July 31, 1948
On July 31, 1948, a 24-year-old pilot took off in a single-engine plane from the Providence Airport in Seekonk, Massachusetts, bound for Taunton, Massachusetts. According to a witness, as the plane was flying about 800 feet over Swansea, it went into a slow turn and spun into the ground where it crashed in thick woods about 1/3 mile west of Walker Street. The witness told police that the plane’s engine was “wide open” at the time of the crash.
