Stow, Massachusetts – January 10, 1993
At about 2 p.m. on the afternoon of January 10, 1993, a 48-year-old pilot took off in a Cessna 182P, (Reg. N52785), from Minuteman Airport in Stow, Massachusetts. As the aircraft left the ground witnesses reported seeing black smoke trailing from the exhaust and the engine skipping. When the aircraft reached an altitude of about 100 feet the pilot banked and made an emergency crash-landing in an open field about a mile north of the airport. When state police arrived on the scene they found the pilot deceased inside the aircraft. The cause of death was unknown, for the aircraft wasn’t seriously damaged.
