South Kingstown, Rhode Island – April 10, 1954
At about 4 p. m. on the afternoon of April 10, 1954, a two-seat Aeronca airplane was approaching a grassy landing strip located on a potato farm in the western portion of town. The plane contained a 33-year-old pilot and the 40-year-old owner of the farm. According to a witness, the aircraft stalled upon its approach and dove into the ground critically injuring both occupants. The plane was routinely stored at the farm, and belonged to a third party who was not present at the time of the crash.
