Seymour, CT. – February 13, 1948

Seymour, Connecticut – February 13, 1948

Vaultee BT-13

On February 13, 1948, a 22-year-old pilot and his passenger were flying in a Army surplus BT-13, single-engine aircraft, over the Seymour area when they encountered heavy fog and crashed in  a wooded area near the Oxford town line.  The area where the crash occurred was a mile from the nearest road, and police were forced to push their way through waist deep snow to reach the scene.  When they arrived, they found the pilot to be deceased, but the passenger was still alive, injured, and couldn’t walk.  They improvised a sled and manually pulled the injured man back to their police car and drove him to Griffin Hospital in Derby.
