Portland, Maine – October 12, 1930
On October 12, 1930, a small plane with a pilot and two passengers was passing over the Portland area when the engine stopped. The plane was at an altitude of 900 feet at the time. The pilot attempted an emergency landing in an open field in the Stroudwater section but when the plane struck the ground it nosed over tossing both passengers out. The plane was damaged, but there were no serious injuries reported.
