North Smithfield, Rhode Island – February 21, 1972
On the afternoon of February 21, 1972, a Cessna 150 aircraft with two people aboard took off from North Central State Airport in Smithfield, R. I. Those aboard included a 46-year-old female flight instructor from Smithfield, and a 26-year-old man from Lincoln, R. I., who was in the process of obtaining his pilots license. Shortly before 1 o’clock, as the aircraft was passing over North Smithfield, it crashed in an open field off Iron Mine Hill Road. Both people escaped injury.
