North Providence, Rhode Island – June 30, 1946
On the afternoon of June 30, 1946, a lone pilot took off from the Smithfield Airport and flew towards North Providence, where the plane developed engine trouble and the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing. The plane came down on the Wilcox Farm where it clipped a tree top and struck the ground. It then bounced and skidded for 150 feet before coming to rest. The bottom of the plane was damaged but the pilot was not injured.
