New Salem, MA. – August 25, 1983

New Salem, Massachusetts – August 25, 1983

On August 25, 1983, a small airplane with a pilot and three passengers aboard crashed and flipped over into the water of the Quabbin Reservoir.  All four escaped without serious injury.  The aircraft then sank in eight feet of water about 100 yards off the shore of the town of New Salem.  The Metropolitan District Commission, which oversees the reservoir, had to bring in a crane from Boston to remove the aircraft.
