New Bedford, Massachusetts – July 25, 1967

     On July 25, 1967, a lone 61-year-old pilot took off in a twin-engine airplane from the New Bedford Airport bound for Beverly, Massachusetts.  Five minutes later the pilot radioed that he was returning to the airport and then dissappeared from radar over a thickly wooded area near northern New Bedford.  A search and rescue operation was instituted, and the wreckage was located the following day.  The pilot was suffereing from non-life threatening injuries  and was transported to a medical facility.
