Mansfield, Massachusetts – June 22, 1948
On the evening of June 22, 1948, a 24-year-old pilot was flying a small trainer aircraft over the Mansfield area. Some said he was stunting with the aircraft, and buzzing his home on School Street; others claimed that the left wing just suddenly fell off the airplane. In either case, a wing tore loose, and the plane crashed in a densely wooded and swampy area west of School St. The pilot suffered a broken arm and other non-life-threatening injuries.
