Madison, CT. – December 15. 1957

Madison, Connecticut – December 15, 1957

On December 15, 1957, a husband and wife took off in a Cessna airplane from Portsmouth, Rhode Island, to visit relatives in Connecticut to deliver Christmas presents.   On the return trip, the plane was running low on fuel so the husband  attempted to switch to a reserve tank.  When he did the engine failed and couldn’t be restarted.  The plane crash-landed in Madison; it reportedly skidded about 30 feet before plowing through two sections of fence and then flipped over.  Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were admitted to Grace-New Haven Hospital in Madison.
