Lincoln, R. I. – September 5, 1947

Lincoln, Rhode Island – September 5, 1947

On September 5, 1947, a father and his son took off from Dunkirk, New York, in a mono-wing, single-engine, “Sky Ranger” airplane, bound for Hyannis, Massachusetts.  They stopped to refuel in Albany before resuming their trip.  Along the way the pilot became lost and spotted the Mineral Spring Airport in Lincoln, and attempted to land to get his bearings.  As he was making his landing, he realized he was too close to the eastern boundary and attempted to abort, but was unsuccessful.  The plane crashed into some trees and was damaged, but the occupants were not hurt.
