Lincoln, R. I. – October 3, 1954

Lincoln, Rhode Island – October 3, 1954

At 4 P.M. on October 3, 1954, two men took off from Mansfield, Massachusetts, in a single engine airplane bound for the Berkley Airport in Cumberland, Rhode Island.  As the airplane was over the Saylesville area of Lincoln, it encountered heavy fog.  Dropping below the fog the pilot saw a cornfield and decided to make an emergency landing. As the plane touched down the left wing buried itself into the dirt and the fuselage split.  Both men received non-life-threatening minor injuries.  The plane was wrecked.
