Keene, New Hampshire – July 4, 1933
On July 4, 1933, a single-engine aircraft with three men aboard took off from the Keene Airport for a short plane ride. According to witnesses, as the plane was returning to the airport, the 24-year-old pilot attempted a “wing-over” maneuver while about 1,800 feet in the air. As he did so, the plane went into a flat spin and crashed in a wooded swamp next to the airport. A 23-year-old passenger from Marlborough, N. H., was critically injured and died a few hours later. The pilot and the other passenger were seriously injured.
