Houlton, Maine – August 23, 1947
On August 23, 1947, an airshow was in progress at the Houlton Municipal Airport. One of the aircraft performing in the show was a former army plane which contained two young men, ages 17 and 23. As the plane was taking off it rose to about 300 feet and stalled, after which it nosed over and crashed and exploded a few feet from the end of the runway. Neither of those aboard survived.
Today the airport is known as Houlton International Airport.
