Groton, Connecticut – April 18, 1960
On April 18, 1960, three navy sailors assigned to the Groton Subbase, were in the process of taking off from Trumbull Field in Groton in a private Cessna 140 when the plane went down in the Poquonnock River at the end of the runway. One man was able to escape but the other two perished.
The injured man was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London.
