Greenfield, MA. – July 31, 1929

Greenfield, Massachusetts – July 31, 1929

On July 31, 1929, two men were flying over the Greenfield area in what was described in the press as an “obsolete” airplane.  For reasons not stated, while the plane was passing over an area about five miles from the center of town, it went into a tail spin and crashed in a field, hitting the ground just twenty-five feet from where two teenagers were picking berries.  Neither of the teenagers were injured, but the plane was destroyed and both men received fatal injuries.
