From Charlestown, R. I. – May 15, 1945

     On May 15, 1945, Ensign James Fitzgerald perished when his plane crashed into Bald Mountain in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.   The type of aircraft and details of the accident are unknown as of this writing. 

     Ensign Fitzgerald’s name is on the memorial at the former Charlestown Naval Auxiliary Air Field, in Charlestown, Rhode Island.
