Eastport, Maine – June 17, 1948

On June 17, 1948, two men took off in a light plane from the Eastport Airport.  Just after becoming airborne the engine stalled and the plane crashed and burst into flames.  The 22-year-old pilot was killed.  A bystander managed to pull the 22-year-old passenger from the flaming wreckage.  The passenger reportedly suffered burns from the waist down, a broken wrist, and shock.
