Eastport, Maine – June 17, 1948
On June 17, 1948, two men took off in a light plane from the Eastport Airport. Just after becoming airborne the engine stalled and the plane crashed and burst into flames. The 22-year-old pilot was killed. A bystander managed to pull the 22-year-old passenger from the flaming wreckage. The passenger reportedly suffered burns from the waist down, a broken wrist, and shock.
