On August 29, 1937, two young men took off in an Arrow-Sport bi-plane with a (65 hp. motor) from a field off Diamond Hill Road in Cumberland.  Just after becoming airborne, while at an altitude of 100 feet, the engine lost power and the plane crashed in a nearby pasture.  The plane was damaged and both men were injured.

State police and the chief of the Cumberland police responded to the accident.  It was learned that the plane was old, and belonged to a third man who’d recently purchased it.

On unidentified man arrived at the scene and argued with the police chief over who had jurisdiction to investigate the crash.
