Charlton, Massachusetts – December 7, 1975
On December 7, 1975, a 34-year-old pilot was practicing emergency landing procedures at a grass field in Charlton which was often used by airplanes. As he was doing so, the engine of his aircraft stopped and wouldn’t re-start. The pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in a nearby open field on Dresser Hill Road. As he was making his landing the plane struck a mound of dirt causing heavy damage to the plane. The pilot was transported to a medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident occurred at about 12:15 a.m., but police weren’t notified until about two-and-a-half hours later.
