Canton, Massachusetts – November 16, 1952
On November 16, 1952, two naval reserve officers were flying a twin-engine trainer aircraft on a cross-country flight over Massachusetts when they encountered thick fog. While attempting to make a controlled approach to Boston’s Logan Airport the plane ran out of gas. The cloud ceiling was only 100 feet so they were unable to select a landing place. As they came out of the fog they crash-landed in a swampy area of Canton about a half-mile from Route 128. Despite damage to the aircraft, neither man was injured.
