Bridgton, Maine – May 17, 1971

At about 9 p.m. on the night of  May 17, 1971, a 1965 single-engine Cessna airplane with three men aboard was making a landing approach when it crashed into Long Lake across from Salmon Point.  The men escaped with no injuries as the plane sank.    The plane had been in route from Bar Harbor, Maine, to Harrison, Maine, when the accident occurred.

The men were rescued from the water by two fishermen in their boat, and taken to the Bridgton police station.

The plane was later recovered and towed to shore.
