Hancock, Massachusetts – May 2, 1971
On the afternoon of May 2, 1971, two Rhode Island men took off from Greenfield, New York, in a Piper PA-18 airplane bound for Pittsfield, Massachusetts. While in route they encountered stormy weather and crashed into a tall tree in a mountanious – wooded section of Handcock. After climbing out of the aircraft and down the tree, they wandered about the woods for the next three hours before commoing to a house. It was later determined that the plane had crashed about 1.5 miles west of Rt. 43.
