North Kingstown, Rhode Island – July 12, 1981

     On the morning of July 12, 1981, a 52-year-old Rhode Island man took off from the Quonset Point State Airport in a homemade aircraft that he’d build himself.   According to wintesses, shortly after becomming airborne, the plane suddenly fell from the sky and crashed in a field less than a mile from the runway, killing the pilot.

     The cause of the crash was unknown. 

     The aircraft reportedly had a single engine and a 12 foot wing span.
