Smithfield, Rhode Island – January 11, 1946
On January 11, 1946, a four-passenger plane belonging to a Providence man crashed while landing at the Smithfield Airport. (This airport was once located where Bryant University is located today.)
The pilot was alone in the plane when the left wing clipped a tree and sent the plane crashing into a stone wall a short distance away. The plane was considerably damaged but the pilot was not injured.
